The ward of San Michele al Tagliamento, in that corner of\nVeneto that borders Friuli Venezia-Giulia, has much more to offer than a long\nbeach and a Blue Flag sea. It is a family-friendly destination, Bibione, the\nperfect place for a trip with your children or with your four-legged friend.\nBut it is also the ideal destination for those who love active holidays, for\nthose who want to alternate relaxation under a sun umbrella \u2013 on a strictly\nsmoke-free beach \u2013 sports-filled afternoons (in the water, on the beach or inland)\n, bike rides along the river and the pine forest, and visits to the many cities\nthat draw the surroundings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because Bibione is, first of all, a <strong>green destination<\/strong>. A perfect location\nfor those who, for tourism, ask that it be (above all) environmentally\nsustainable. First tourist pole in Europe to obtain EMAS environmental\ncertification (in 2002) thanks to the strict environmental protection protocols\nadopted, and thanks to the presence of Mediterranean gardens by the sea and\ncity parks cultivated with organic rules, it is also \u2013 by now for years \u2013 Blue\nFlag. A demonstration of a constant commitment, and a guarantee of a holiday\ncapable of generating well-being. For real.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What to see in San Michele al\nTagliamento<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First of all, what to see in <strong>San Michele al Tagliamento<\/strong>? Walking\nthrough its streets, basically means walking through history. Its territory was\nalready known in Roman times, since the Via Annia that connected Aquileia to\nRavenna passed right from here. The road ran parallel to the Tagliamento and\nright along it there was the <em>Mutatio\nApicilia<\/em>: we now know it as San Giorgio al Tagliamento and it was at the\ntime a station for changing the horses of the Roman Empire\u2019s couriers. Because\nof the barbarian invasions, the inhabitants of the villages of San Michele, San\nMauro and San Filippo took refuge on the islets of the Venetian lagoon and on\nthe <em>Insulae Bibioni<\/em>, giving life to a\nterritory that then \u2013 in 1797 \u2013 Napoleon transformed into the Municipality of\nSan Michele.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">History buffs who are on holiday in Bibione can therefore choose to spend some time visiting San Michele al Tagliamento, where they can also admire what the bombings of World War II destroyed: just bet on direction of <strong>Villa Ivancich<\/strong>, an abandoned home surrounded by vegetation that \u2013 today \u2013 has a Gothic and spectacular charm. There are still glimpses of those glories that recall the sixteenth century, and those environments that hosted even the writer <strong>Ernest Hemingway<\/strong> and the philosopher <strong>Ezra Pound<\/strong>. To treat yourself to a journey into the past, full of charm and melancholy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/dintorni_san_michele_V02-1024x478-1024x478.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24466\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The destinations to be\ndiscovered in half a day, leaving from Bibione <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But San Michele al Tagliamento is not the only\nplace near Bibione that deserves to be known. The surrounding territories are\nrich in testimonies: by Andrea Palladio, Giotto, Dante, Gianbattista Tiepolo.\nThere are Roman and Renaissance dwellings; there are bars to taste wines and\nsip spritz. Because, if you never get bored in Bibione, there is a reason.\nWhere to go? If you love historical places, you can focus on <strong>Sesto al Reghena<\/strong>: here Roman finds have\nbeen discovered, here you can admire the masterpiece that is the Benedictine\nabbey of Santa Maria in Sylvis, once surrounded by the forest. Later\ntransformed into a medieval castle, its interiors are frescoed by painters from\nthe Giotto School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And what about <strong>Portogruaro<\/strong>, which is about thirty kilometres from Bibione and\nwhich \u2013 thanks to the charm of the Lemene river \u2013 is nicknamed \u201cLittle Venice\nof the mainland\u201d? Strolling here, you can see Renaissance and medieval palaces,\nshop among the stalls of a centuries-old market; admire the elegant houses that\nare reflected in the water. And, if you have a little time left, two kilometres\nfrom Portogruaro you can then visit <strong>Concordia\nSagittaria<\/strong>, an ancient Roman colony of the 1st century BC with splendid\nbuildings and a charm that smells of old. But there is also <strong>Aquileia<\/strong> \u2013 with an archaeological area\nthat is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and with the extraordinary Basilica of S.\nMaria Assunta \u2013 and there is <strong>Cordovado<\/strong>,\nan ancient medieval village that is counted among the most beautiful villages\nin Italy, whose historic core is almost intact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, if you wanted to push yourself a little\nfurther and maybe take advantage of a cloudy and cool day to get away from the\nbeach and to discover one of the many beauties that Italy hides, there really\nis plenty of choice: Trieste, Vicenza, Verona, Treviso, Udine, Padua and Venice\nare perfect destinations for a day trip. And to give your holiday the taste of\nart and history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By bicycle along the Tagliamento<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For you is there no vacation without a bit of sport, without long walks and pleasant bike rides? By choosing Bibione, you won\u2019t be disappointed. In fact, the Tagliamento creates splendid sceneries, to be enjoyed by pedalling slowly, to listen to the sounds of nature and to fill your eyes with them. Here, a <strong>ring-shaped route<\/strong> for mountain biking leads between the fossil dunes on the sea and the banks of the river, slips into the pine forest and leads up to the <strong>Lighthouse<\/strong>, where you can admire the sea with its horizon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/marketing-arena-bibione-15062019-0002_\u00a9av-1024x767.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24471\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you want to put yourself to the test, instead, with a slightly longer\ncourse there is the <strong>Gira Tagliamento<\/strong>.\nCycling along it, from the Faro di Bibione you reach San Michele al Tagliamento\nand \u2013 later \u2013 the town of Alvisopoli. You ride between water hens and mallards,\nexploring the hinterland of Bibione with its nature and its colors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because, if there is a place that can bring\neveryone (but everyone) into agreement, that is Bibione. Sportsmen and those in\nsearch of relaxation, history buffs and birdwatchers, families with children,\ncouples, groups of friends and those \u2013 no longer young \u2013 seek a place to feel\ngood and relax: the Venetian city between the sea and the Tagliamento is\ndestined to enter the heart of everyone.
